How the holiday calendar works
The holiday calendar shows the public holidays of 68 countries in three ways: a month view in the style of a calendar app, the full list of the year and a countdown to the next holiday. Choose the country and, where the law differs inside it, the region: the Brazilian states, the German Länder, the nations of the United Kingdom, the main Indian states, the Canadian provinces and territories or the Swiss cantons. The view lives in the address of the page, so you can bookmark or share a month, and the week starts on Sunday or Monday as is usual in your language.
Each holiday appears as a coloured chip: national holidays in blue, regional ones in teal, observed or transferred days off in grey and optional days, which are not days off, with a dashed outline. Islamic and other lunar holidays carry a clock icon because the government confirms them close to the date. The dates come from the built-in rules of each country, such as the Easter computus and laws that move holidays to Monday, plus the official decrees that the site updates every year, for example the Chinese and Russian working-day swaps. The countdown starts from today in the time zone of the country's capital.
Example: Brazil, national holidays, February 2026. Carnival Monday and Tuesday, February 16 and 17, appear with a dashed outline because nationally they are optional days, and they become holidays when you choose a state that adopted them by law, such as Rio de Janeiro for Carnival Tuesday. On October 24, 2026 the countdown shows 9 days until All Souls' Day on Monday, November 2. Limits: municipal holidays and company days off are not included, and for years without a published decree only the holidays fixed by law are shown.
