How the Quina analysis works

This page studies the official draw history of Quina: how often each number has been drawn, which numbers have gone the longest without appearing, how draws are split between even and odd numbers, their sums, repeated numbers and consecutive sequences, and how many times each possible combination has already been drawn. It is a tool to explore the data and understand the game, not to predict results: the statistics describe the past only.

Each Quina contest draws 5 different numbers from 1 to 80, so the number of possible combinations is the binomial coefficient C(80,5) = 24,040,016. The data come from the official results spreadsheet uploaded by the site administrator. For a number you choose, the frequency view shows how many draws included it, the percentage and the ten numbers that most often came out together with it. The lists can be filtered by even numbers and sum and downloaded as PDF, and the charts compare observed counts with those expected from a fair draw, using z-scores and a chi-square test.

Example: in Quina every number has the same chance of being among the next numbers drawn, 5/80 = 6.25%, and every specific combination has a chance of 1 in 24,040,016, whether it looks like a pretty pattern or has already been drawn. Draws are independent random events: an overdue or very frequent number does not become more or less likely, and no statistic can predict a result or increase your chance of winning. Play responsibly, only if you are 18 or older, and never bet money you cannot afford to lose.
