Unemployment insurance

Find out whether you qualify for Brazilian unemployment insurance (seguro-desemprego), the amount of each installment, how many installments you get and an estimated payment schedule.

These calculations follow Brazilian labor and tax law (CLT, INSS, IRRF, FGTS) and are valid only for employment contracts in Brazil. Amounts are in Brazilian reais (R$).

Legislation and tables in force on 10/17/2026: 2026 minimum wage, 2026 INSS and IRRF tables and the income tax reduction of Lei 15.270/2025.

This is an estimate for guidance. Collective agreements and individual situations may change the amounts; it does not replace the payslip or advice from an accountant or lawyer.

How unemployment insurance is calculated

Unemployment insurance is paid to employees dismissed without cause, including indirect termination (rescisao indireta). The qualifying period depends on the request: for the first request you need at least 12 months with salary in the last 18 months, for the second at least 9 months in the last 12, and for the third and later requests salary in each of the 6 months right before the dismissal. Pick the request that applies to you and enter your last salaries. Resignation, dismissal for cause and mutual agreement do not give the right to the benefit.

The number of installments comes from the months with salary in the last 36 months, where a fraction of 15 days or more counts as a full month. With 24 months or more you receive 5 installments, with 12 to 23 months you receive 4, and with fewer months you receive 3 only if you qualify: 9 to 11 months on the second request, or 6 to 11 months on the third and later requests. Enter the months worked and the calculator applies this rule for the chosen request.

The installment depends on the average of your last salaries, using the 2026 table. Up to R$ 2,222.17 the installment is the average times 0.8. Between R$ 2,222.18 and R$ 3,703.99 it is R$ 1,777.74 plus 0.5 times the part above R$ 2,222.17. Above R$ 3,703.99 it is the ceiling of R$ 2,518.65. It is never below the minimum wage of R$ 1,621.00. Example: an average of R$ 3,000.00 gives R$ 1,777.74 + 0.5 x R$ 777.83 = R$ 2,166.66, and five installments total R$ 10,833.30.

Domestic workers follow a separate rule: they receive one minimum wage per installment, for at most 3 installments, and need at least 15 months of work in the last 24. If you enter the dismissal date, the calculator shows the request window, from 7 to 120 days after the dismissal, and an estimated date for each installment, starting about 30 days after the request. Real dates depend on when you apply and on how the Ministry of Labor processes your claim.

Legal basis: Lei 7.998/1990 arts. 2 to 5, with the changes of Lei 13.134/2015; Resolution CODEFAT 957/2022; the Ministry of Labor (MTE) benefit table in force from January 2026; Lei Complementar 150/2015 arts. 26 and 28 for domestic workers; and CLT art. 484-A, paragraph 2, which excludes termination by mutual agreement. The result is an estimate for guidance and does not replace the decision of the Ministry of Labor.
