Night shift, insalubrity and hazard pay
Calculate the night work premium, the reflection on the weekly rest, and the insalubrity or hazard pay (periculosidade) added to a Brazilian salary.
These calculations follow Brazilian labor and tax law (CLT, INSS, IRRF, FGTS) and are valid only for employment contracts in Brazil. Amounts are in Brazilian reais (R$).
Legislation and tables in force on 10/17/2026: 2026 minimum wage, 2026 INSS and IRRF tables and the income tax reduction of Lei 15.270/2025.
This is an estimate for guidance. Collective agreements and individual situations may change the amounts; it does not replace the payslip or advice from an accountant or lawyer.
How night work, insalubrity and hazard pay are calculated
For urban workers, night work runs from 22:00 to 05:00 and pays at least 20% more than the day hour (CLT art. 73). The night hour is reduced to 52 minutes and 30 seconds, so 7 clock hours in the window count as 8 paid hours; type the clock hours and the calculator applies the 8/7 factor. Rural workers receive 25% (Lei 5.889/1973 art. 7), with the night from 21:00 to 05:00 in farming and from 20:00 to 04:00 in livestock, and without the reduced hour. If you leave the rate blank, the legal minimum for the chosen type is used.
Insalubrity is paid when the job exposes the worker to harmful agents above the limits of NR-15. The CLT sets three grades on the minimum wage: 10%, 20% and 40%, which in 2026 means R$ 162.10, R$ 324.20 and R$ 648.40. Súmula Vinculante 4 of the STF forbids using the minimum wage as an indexer, so the base remains debated, and a collective agreement may set a better one. This calculator uses the minimum wage, the usual rule when no agreement says otherwise. The grade comes from the technical report, not from a free choice.
Hazard pay (periculosidade) is 30% of the base salary, without bonuses, gratifications or profit sharing, and it is owed to those who work with flammables, explosives or electricity, to security staff, traffic agents and to workers who use a motorcycle on the job (CLT art. 193, NR-16). For a salary of R$ 3,000.00 the amount is R$ 900.00. Because it is paid habitually, it integrates the hourly base of the night premium, which is why the calculator raises the base when hazard pay is the amount added.
Insalubrity and hazard pay are not cumulative: when both apply, the worker chooses one, and the page adds the higher amount and marks it. Example: salary of R$ 3,000.00, 44 hours a week, 7 clock night hours on 20 nights, which is 140 clock hours or 160 paid hours. The hour is R$ 13.6364, and 160 × R$ 13.6364 × 20% gives a night premium of R$ 436.36. With 26 working days and 4 rest days, the weekly rest on that premium adds R$ 67.13. Overtime, breaks and mixed shifts change the real figure.
Legal basis: CLT arts. 73, 192 and 193; Lei 5.889/1973 art. 7; Súmula 60 (night premium and its extension), Súmula 139 (insalubrity integrates pay) and Súmula 191 (hazard pay base) of the TST; OJ 259 of SDI-1 TST; Súmula Vinculante 4 of the STF; NR-15 and NR-16. This is an estimate: collective agreements, the technical report and the payroll rounding may change the amounts.
