Frequently asked questions

How much is the prima de servicios?

30 days of salary per year, paid as 15 days per semester for a full semester. The formula is (salary + transport allowance) × days worked ÷ 360.

When must it be paid?

The first half by June 30 and the second by December 20. If the job ends earlier, the proportional prima is paid with the final settlement.

Is the transport allowance included?

Yes, for workers who earn up to two minimum wages: the law treats the allowance as salary for the prima and the cesantías (Ley 1 de 1963, art. 7). In 2026 it is COL$ 249,095 a month.

Do domestic workers receive the prima?

Yes. Since Ley 1788 de 2016, domestic workers, drivers of family services and similar workers receive the prima under the same rules.

Is income tax withheld from the prima?

The prima is a labor payment that may be subject to withholding tax (retención en la fuente) together with other payments of the month, depending on the total income. This page shows the gross amount.

How the Colombia prima calculator works

This calculator works out the prima de servicios, the service bonus that every private employer in Colombia pays to its employees twice a year: by June 30 for the January to June semester and by December 20 for the July to December semester. It is meant for employees who want to check the amount they should receive and for employers and accountants who prepare payroll. Enter the monthly salary, choose the June or December payment, and fill in the start or end date only if you were hired or left during the semester. A checkbox lets you include or leave out the transport allowance.

The prima follows art. 306 of the Código Sustantivo del Trabajo (Labor Code), as amended by Ley 1788 de 2016: 30 days of salary per year. The calculator applies (monthly salary + transport allowance) × days worked in the semester ÷ 360, counting days with the commercial convention in which every month has 30 days. The transport allowance of COL$ 249,095 (Decreto 1470 de 2025) is added only when the salary is up to two minimum wages, that is COL$ 3,501,810, since the 2026 minimum wage is COL$ 1,750,905 (Decreto 1469 de 2025). The payment dates are June 30 and December 20.

Example: an employee earns COL$ 2,500,000.00 a month and worked the whole second semester of 2026. The salary is below two minimum wages, so the base is COL$ 2,500,000.00 + COL$ 249,095.00 = COL$ 2,749,095.00. With 180 days counted, the prima is COL$ 2,749,095.00 × 180 ÷ 360 = COL$ 1,374,547.50, due by 12/20/2026. Limitations: the result is the gross amount, variable pay such as commissions or overtime must be averaged by you before entering the salary, and workers with an integral salary do not receive the prima.
